چکیده

Abstract The existence of oil palm wastes has caused a significant disposal challenge, and it contains high fibre that is hard to disintegrate. Empty fruit bunches (EFB) contributes approximately 24 weights (wt.) % solid waste in industries cellulose content. This study aims find the best combination ratio EFB fine (EFBF) tapioca starch for polymer production (EFBT) its characterisation. was collected from Southern Malay Palm Oil Mill at Simpang Renggam, Johor, shredded using an industrial grinder. EFBF (TS) combined water microwave heating according generated Response Surface Methodology (RSM), end homogenous pellet obtained then analysed Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) while raw Field Emission - Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (FESEM-EDS). SEM analysis shows increasing interaction with less void represented by respective TS ratios 1:9, 1:5, 5:9, 5:5, 9:5, 5:1 9:1. highest contact angle recorded 88.53° 1:9 followed 40.35° no 5:1, 5:9 9:1 ratios. fastest rate disintegration 2712.000 g/day, slowest 1.206 g/day. ANOVA as p-values were <0.05, not p-value >0.05. However, although both models are unable project optimised values further testing, this did provide baseline range selection future RSM optimisation TS.

Characterisation of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches for Fuel Application

This study was an attempt to produce bio-oil from empty fruit bunches (EFB) of oil palm waste using fast pyrolysis technology. A 150 g/h fluidised bed bench scale fast pyrolysis unit operating at atmospheric pressure was used to obtain the pyrolysis liquid. A comparison of the elemental composition of unwashed and washed feedstock was made in this study. With the five methods of treatment being...

Pulping of Empty Fruit Bunches (efb) from the Palm Oil Industry by Formic Acid

Empty fruit bunches (EFB) from palm oil were characterized. The holocellulose (66.97%), α-cellulose (47.91%), and lignin (24.45%) are similar to wood materials, and various non-wood materials, but the fiber length is shorter (0.53 mm). The influence of operational variables in the EFB pulping [formic acid (75-95%), hydrochloric acid (0.05-0.15%), and time (30-150 min)], on the yield, kappa numb...

Statistical Optimization of the Enzymatic Saccharification of the Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches

A statistical optimization of the saccharification process of EFB was studied. The statistical analysis was done by applying faced centered central composite design (FCCCD) under response surface methodology (RSM). In this investigation, EFB dose, enzyme dose and saccharification period was examined, and the maximum 53.45% (w/w) yield of reducing sugar was found with 4% (w/v) of EFB, 10% (v/v) ...

Co-composting of empty fruit bunches and partially treated palm oil mill effluents in pilot scale

The main objective of this study is to investigate the physicochemical changes of the cocomposting Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) with partially treated palm oil mill effluent (POME) in pilot scale. The partially treated POME from anaerobic pond was sprayed onto the shredded EFB throughout the treatment. The composting materials were turned over one to three times per week for aeration. Temperature an...

Photogrammetric Grading of Oil Palm Fresh Fruit Bunches

Conventional grading of oil palm Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) is still currently manually carried out in palm oil producing industries. The most critical part of the grading process is the categorization of the oil palm fruit bunches according to their ripeness. This paper presents a computer assisted photogrammetric methodology which correlates the color of the palm oil fruits to their ripeness a...
